Company Structure

Overview

As of the October 2021 midpoint release, new API sections have been added to support management of the company structure.

Types

The supported types are: Departments, Employee Classes, Positions and Work Locations. We'll cover the purpose of each of these fields briefly below.

Departments

Departments are used to indicate different areas of a business. The business is free to define these however it wishes. With Greenshades you may use departments for classifying employees, time entries, and earnings, and, where relevant, for reporting on the different features Greenshades offers.

Employee Classes

Employee Classes are reserved for future use, with the intended function being to define cross-sections of employees who share similar payroll attributes (such as schedule, pay codes, benefits, etc.). Presently Employee Classes are only used as a reporting field.

Positions

Positions are used to describe the different job titles employees may carry in a given business. With Greenshades you may use positions for classifying employees, time entries, and earnings, and, where relevant, for reporting on the different features Greenshades offers.

Work Locations

Work Locations define the different physical sites where employees perform work for the business. These locations may be assigned to employees as well as other entities. They are then used for a variety of purposes, such as for reporting, display purposes on pay stubs or for computing taxes during payroll.
